I’m sure this article would be interesting for the webstore owners, because only they are 100% engaged in successful website running and developing. But how can you be sure that your web store is running properly and is convenient for visitors you want to turn into customers. (more…)
Every developer, who works with Magento extensions, has to deal with Magento Connect. I think we all want to enrich the basic platform that helps selling our products.
Here are my ideas for improving Magento Connect:
1. The basic filter.
We have four sorting categories by:
- Most Popular
- Most Reviewed
- Price: Highest – Lowest
- Price: Lowest – Highest
As you can see this search displays by default the most popular modules. That is why customers can be challenged to find out recently added modules. In my opinion, if we add sorting by date feature (New extensions), it will solve the problem and give new extensions and new developers a chance to become noticeable for customers.
2. Set a rating for every extension. You can apply the rating that is used in Magento for products. Eventually, the module is a product itself.
Consider this one: only registered users take part in rating.
3. Establish more rigorous pre-moderation process. Some extensions resemble trash and still appear in Magento Connect module list without standard descriptions and appropriate screenshots.
4. Remove modules with zero usage and no downloads from the total output. For instance, the module that had no downloads within two months will be removed from the total output and from customer search. A developer will receive a message with request to change the module – improve functionality, write expanded description, etc., because no one buys it.
All these suggestions will improve Magento Connect for customers and developers and assist them in running into each other.
I look forward to any opinions and discussions about Magento Connect enhancement. Perhaps, its support department will follow them ;)
