In some cases in the default Prestashop template you may see subcategories to show up not only in the left panel but also in the product list portion. To remove them you need to remove subcategories section from your category.tpl.

Do you mean this feature?
This is on the right track but the real problem is duplicated products in the prestashop store. Even if you don’t want to duplicate them, it happens automatically when you’re creating them at times.
How do you disable the duplication feature?
