The vision of Ecofort is that people can maintain or improve their living standard by simplifying the daily routines with the help of innovations. Ecofort AG is a company from Nidau, Switzerland, providing efficient and reliable products for the indoor climate. There were times when there was no vacuum cleaners, air conditioners and other necessary things without which we can now hardly imagine our day-to-day life. Ecofort took the responsibility to continue this tradition – to supply people with high-quality home appliances.
Although the website has a lot to offer (heaters, radiators, humidifiers, air cleaners, clothes dryers, etc.) they have a special section on their online store that is specialized in handheld cordless vacuum cleaners. The innovative products in different variations are available on a separate sub-domain of the website.
According to different sources, about 51% of online purchases are done via handheld devices such as tablet and smartphone rather than computers or laptops. This number is constantly rising which only enhances the importance of making the website mobile-friendly and responsive on all devices. Ecofort is not an exception. During the development, a separate role was paid to the mobile and tablet versions of the website to make them look good whatever device a customer uses.
The store itself is created and configured with the help of PrestaShop shopping cart platform. Ecofort company has partners all around the globe and the vacuum cleaner website was to be based upon the style of one of their partners that is utilizing Magento as a fundamental eCommerce system. At that point the Magento website was a reference element standard on which we were basing our works.
Comparing two difference platforms can be as interesting as a challenging task that we’ve started. This is partially because the two systems work differently – in terms of page structures, the possibility of certain customizations and basic logic.
Our project mission was to customize a theme according to a particular look already implemented on the Magento store. What’s important in such cases is to make the website not only look exactly the same but make it work properly in terms of features, functioning regardless of the possible differences between both systems. Luckily we’ve had good experience in creating PrestaShop and Magento themes and templates from scratch and it was a good opportunity for us to prove our abilities.
While working on the Home Page and its basic elements including header, footer and home page blocks, we switched to other main pages of the website – Catalog page, Product page, Account page, Cart page, Checkout and other pages. Each page had its own peculiarity that needed to be taken care of. For example, on the catalog page, we needed to change the image upon hovering which is not a default feature in PrestaShop and needed to be implemented by our team.
Product page on Ecofort deserves special attention as it’s a separate world on the website. It’s anything but ordinary and that’s what I like about it. The top of the page on it is emblazoned with a large product image with a Buy Now button which upon clicking on it scrolls to the bottom on the page where you can add a product to the cart. There is also a video on the page which makes the page alive and more active. You can also find an image gallery to have a better observation of how it looks. There are customer reviews available and other CMS blocks to display the properties of the product. Looks impressive and not typical, doesn’t it?
