PrestaShop Customization for Ceruti Center

About Ceruti Center

Ceruti Center is one of the largest retailers of garden machinery and spare parts in the region. Based in Italy, they sell original and aftermarket parts for outdoor and agricultural equipment. Their PrestaShop store carries over 23,000 products and ships to 30+ countries.

About the Project

Challenge

The store had grown large enough that manual processes were holding it back. Staff entered product data and order details by hand, which led to errors and additional workload. Product listings lacked a consistent format, and customers could not list or sell their used machinery through the platform.

There was also no central place for buyers to track and manage their equipment. The founder aimed to modify the site into a self-service marketplace where customers could buy and sell machinery, track their equipment, and schedule servicing and repairs themselves.

Solution

BelVG extended the existing PrestaShop store with custom modules. We automated listing and moderation workflow, built a peer-to-peer sales feature for used machinery, and gave each customer a personal equipment hub called My Garage.

We also fixed performance issues that slowed the site under load. Two of three planned modules are now live, with the third in the pipeline.

“Sell Your Machinery” Customized Module

There was no structured way for customers to list used equipment. Listings took too long to moderate, were inconsistent, and were hard to review.

We built a three-step listing flow:

  • Step1. The sellers fill out a structured form with key details.
  • Step2. They review the listing before submission.
  • Step3. The listing goes to moderation before it goes live.

The Feature’s Key Data Inputs Implemented

We created a structured form for step 1 that lets users provide information about their machinery while maintaining accuracy and consistency across listings.

  • Images. Users can upload up to five photos of their machinery.
  • Categorization. It allows specifying Machine Type (e.g., Riding Lawn Mower)
  • Listing Filters. The products can be for Sale or for Free/Gift.
  • Item Detail. Required fields include a Title, a Description, and a Condition: Used, New, Refurbished, or For Parts.
  • Transaction Details. Sellers specify their Price and the machinery’s location (Country and Province/State).

As a result, moderators can review and approve listings faster, which reduces moderation time by 40%.

Seller and Buyer Communication

The updated platform also needed a way to manage seller profiles and enable communication between buyers and sellers.

Each seller can be identified as a private individual or a business. They can add a phone number and email, as well as choose to hide this information.

When contact details are hidden, all buyer questions go through Ceruti Center’s built-in messaging system. It keeps communication on-platform, reduces spam, and protects seller privacy.

Sellers can also flag a listing as “Urgent” to signal a time-sensitive offer. This label is visible to buyers and helps move sales faster.

Buyers can now clearly see whether they are dealing with a private seller or a business. It sets the right expectations around pricing, warranties, and response times before the conversation even starts.

Custom My Garage feature for PrestaShop store

“My Garage” Feature

A 23,000-item catalog makes it difficult for users to find the right part for a specific machine. We built the My Garage feature to solve this problem by narrowing down the selection.

When a user registers and purchases machinery, it is automatically added to their Garage. From that point, the store adapts to them. Product filters, recommendations, and part listings align with the machines they own.

Users can also add equipment manually by clicking “Add a Vehicle” on the Garage page, or by tapping the “+ My Garage” button while browsing the catalog.

The Garage also serves as the starting point for selling. Instead of entering all specifications from scratch, a user selects a machine from their Garage and begins a listing with the verified details already filled in.

For users who have not logged in yet, the store shows them the last machine they viewed, a lightweight version of the same personalization.

For users who have not logged in yet, the store shows them the last machine they viewed, a lightweight version of the same personalization.

For users with an empty Garage, the interface shows a clear prompt: “Your Garage is empty. Add a Machinery”. It guides new users toward the feature without confusion.

My Garage acts as a personalized inventory and control panel for the user’s equipment. Customers now find the correct parts 55% faster than before.

Server Performance improvment for PrestaShop store

Technical Improvements

The platform experienced slowdowns and server errors during high-traffic periods. When a user tried to browse during a flash sale, they often saw a “Server 500 Error” or had to wait ten seconds for a page to load. Here’s what we’ve done to fix it:

  • Server Performance

We audited the codebase and found that the shopping cart was triggering numerous database queries whenever a user added an item. Under load, it caused the server to stall.

We refactored the relevant code to pull only the data actually needed. Server load dropped by 30%, and the cart and checkout perform reliably during peak hours.

AJAX Filtering on Listing Pages for PrestaShop store

  • AJAX Filtering on Listing Pages

On the “Second Hand” listing pages, every filter selection caused the entire page to reload. For buyers who browsed by hand, machine type, or condition, the experience was slow and frustrating.

We replaced the reload with AJAX filtering. The list now updates in place, without refreshing the page. Browsing became significantly faster, and users stay on the page longer.
